Challenging conditions for the youngsters on the Kiel Outer Fjord last weekend
Weak winds on Saturday, strong winds on Sunday - there was a lot to show for the 300 or so young sailors at the weekend. The strongest pictures

At the weekend, 300 sailors competed in the Opti A and B, ILCA 4 and 6 and 29er classes on Kiel's outer fjord. Reigning German champions and the leaders of their rankings competed against each other at the Strander Küz.

"Our fields were very strong in sporting terms, with participants travelling from all over Germany and Denmark," says Kai Bertallot, organiser of the regatta and head coach of the organising Kieler Yacht-Club e.V. (KYC). "The weather had two faces this year," reports Andreas Schubert, KYC Youth Manager, "from little to no wind on Saturday to a 6 Beaufort basic wind at Kiel Lighthouse today."
