Single-handed regatta: Online registration for Silverrudder starts on Sunday at 5 pm

The first challenge of the Silverrudder single-handed regatta begins again months before the start, when it comes to getting one of the coveted starting places for the race around Funen from Svendborg.
The time has come this Sunday: at 17:00 on 24 March 2019, the online registration list for the 450 starting places to be allocated will open. Last year, they were gone in less than an hour.

However, the Silverrudder 2018 will be remembered above all for the stormy conditions and the discussion about whether the organisers should have cancelled the race. Last year, 139 skippers took part despite the cold front that swept across Funen with gusts of up to 50 knots and turned Svendborgsund into a dangerous place for amateur sailors with a strong current.

In the end, 53 boats made it into the ranking, dozens ran aground, collided or even broke their masts. Organiser Ole Ingemann Nielsen then announced his intention to rethink the rules of the world's largest single-handed regatta.

And yet there is hardly any sign of a decline in the number of entries for 2019. Places have been allocated faster and faster for years, and the maximum possible number of starters has even been increased from 400 to 450.

The entry fee is 161 euros. Unlike in the past, an entry can also be withdrawn or transferred for the first time in 2019 by 21 June at 10 a.m. to silverrudder@silverrudder.com. The entry fee will then be refunded pro rata. The returned starting places will be allocated to new entrants on 9 August at 5 pm.

The registration portal will open on Sunday at www.silverrudder.com open. The Silverrudder 2019 starts on Friday, 20 September.
