As part of the MidsummerSail From the south of the Baltic Sea to the far north, eleven crews set off from Wismar on the summer solstice on 21 June. In 5 days, 17 hours, 38 minutes and 46 seconds, skipper Uwe Prieß and his sailing yacht "Pure" were the fastest to make it to the famous yellow buoy in Töre, Sweden. The 40-foot yacht crossed the finish line at 6.38 a.m. and set the new record for the midsummer regatta. The previous record time for the distance of almost 900 nautical miles was set in 2017 and stood at 6 days, 12 hours, 23 minutes and 47 seconds.
The crew of the "Pure" were delighted to win two Baltic Sea regatta classifications at the finish line. Not only were they the first boat to cross the finish line after achieving their best time - the Prieß couple also had the smallest crew of two in the field. They were rewarded for their performance with a trophy and 1000 euros prize money each.
The prize for the smallest boat went to the "Ilex", a Stringer 915, which skippered by Ralph Keller crossed the Baltic Sea yesterday after 9 days, 26 minutes and 20 seconds.
Regatta organiser Robert Nowatzki was able to set a new participation record this year with 20 crews registered and eleven starting. By the end of the race on 5 July, nine crews are expected to have reached their destination in Sweden.
