The origin of this traditional Mediterranean regatta was a spontaneous race between a classic and a modern yacht in 1981. The regatta off Saint-Tropez became famous as "La Nioulargue", not least because of the atmosphere that prevails during the event in what was once a tranquil fishing village and is now a meeting place for the jet set.
The oldest of the major classic boat meetings on the Mediterranean - which has brought together old and modern yachts from the very beginning - has retained its flair of amateur togetherness among like-minded people. In addition to the 86 classic beauties, numerous modern racers and impressive maxis were also at the start.
YACHT photographer Tobias Stoerkle, who accompanied the regatta with his camera, was also on site. The photographer from Lake Constance, who specialises in classic boats, took numerous pictures that are well worth seeing. One of his pictures of the 8 mR World Championship recently made it onto the shortlist for this year's Mirabaud Image Award. Until 8 November, you can vote for him as part of the Audience Award. Vote.
