The new German sailing champions were crowned on the Flensburg Fjord. The titles went to two teams from Kiel

Four days of thrilling sailing, served up by the host Flensburger Segel-Club (FSC), the team led by Claus Otto Hansen and race director Hajo Andresen, as well as active support from the team of the Regatta-Vereinigung Seesegeln (RVS): the German Sailing Championships as part of the 108th Flensburg Promotion Week was a successful regatta for most of its participants. This was also due to the fact that the weather co-operated and provided the teams with good wind conditions on the fjord. Michael Berghorn's X-41 "Halbtrocken 4.0" in ORCi 1 + 2 and Gordon Nickel's Italia 9.98 "OneSpirit" in ORCi 3 + 4 took the titles in the two championship groups.

Michael Berghorn summed it up accordingly: "Demanding sailing with gusty winds of over 30 knots required good boat handling and a good crew. After a successful season, we were able to overcome this challenge quite well here and are delighted to end the season in a good position." In the group of larger boats, Tilmar Hansen's fast runner-up from the Kieler Yacht-Club sailed to second place. In the end, his TP52 "Outsider" was only 3.7 points short of the title. Bo Teichmann from the Outsider Sailing Team had already said after the long-distance race: "If you didn't enjoy the day, it's your own fault!" Torsten Bastiansen's X-41 "Sydbank" from Flensborg Yacht Club sailed to third place in ORCi 1 + 2, just 0.7 points behind "Outsider". In the combined ORCi 3 + 4 group, Gordon Nickel's crew on "OneSpirit" remained in a class of its own for four days. With four race wins and two second places, the team from the One Kiel club collected just 8.4 points. IDM silver went to Max Augustin's crew from the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein on the Farr 30 "H.E.A.T." ahead of Knut Freudenberg's First 36.7 "Halbtrocken" from the Amrumer Segel- und Regattaverein.

In addition to much praise, there was also some criticism in Flensburg of the sometimes delayed results service, which had to be corrected time and again. And the fact that the long distance - with an increased factor of 1.3 - could be cancelled like a short distance. At the end of the IDM off Glücksburg, the fjord once again provided the crews with the best conditions. Race officer Hajo Andresen sent the two ORC groups out on the final medium distance at 10 am as planned. While the previous days were still characterised by various early starts, the sailors were now more conservative at the start line in the final. Perhaps to minimise the risk, but perhaps also due to the after-effects of the exuberant party the evening before: the marquee set up for the first time at the clubhouse of the Flensburg Sailing Club and the sounds of offshore DJ "Fat Fechner" had created an excellent atmosphere among the participants. It was the most exuberant dancing in Flensburg for a long time. The 108th Flensburg Fjord Week will continue next weekend with the Nospa Cup.
