The 52nd Antigua Sailing Week came to an end this weekend with titles decided in twelve classes. The sailing festival delighted its participants

As a regatta sailor, you could hardly wish for more: fresh trade winds blowing across the courses at up to 20 knots, plenty of sunshine and pleasant summer temperatures. What we still have to wait a little longer for in this country was a challenge for the crews on 52 boats in twelve classes at Antigua Sailing Week and made them happy.

In the CSA Bareboat 1 division, four boats flying the German flag took first place. After eight races, Gerd Eiermann's team on the "KH+P Odin II" came out on top with six daily victories ahead of Alexander Pfeiffer's team on the "KH+P Bavastro" and the "KH+P Lascaris" skippered by Karl Puetz. The "KH+P Barbuda" with Hans Steidle's crew won the CSA Bareboat 3 category. The British sailors were once again the most successful, celebrating five class victories. The fact that the fun regatta in the picture-book sailing area was not only characterised by exciting duels for podium places, but also by a total of eleven protests.

The organisers had changed their courses this year, which was well received by the majority of participants: longer coastal races and shorter technical "up & downs" were met with enthusiasm by the crews. "We are delighted with the fantastic response we have had to the new courses," said Regatta Manager Lorna Saunders at the closing ceremony of the 52nd edition of Antigua Sailing Week, where the twelve class winners and other crews were honoured. Speaking about the series organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), Lorna Saunders said: "It was a challenging week not only for the competitors but also for the race officers. The multihulls, double-handed crews and CSA-1 classes have really enjoyed the mix of inshore and short-handed racing. And all sailors welcomed the new 'Up & Down' courses. The 52nd Antigua Sailing Week was a great success on the water."

Sailing is like a constantly refreshing declaration of love for life."
