The Rhine Week took place for the first time in 1922. It is still extremely popular today. But what makes Europe's oldest, largest and longest river regatta so special?

No other river regatta in Europe can look back on such a long tradition and record numbers of 140 starters: The Rhine Week attracts many sailors from a wide variety of regions every year. Also because the section to be sailed changes every year, each edition remains a unique experience.

After a two-year coronavirus break, the long-distance regatta returned this year with 68 registered boats. The field is mostly characterised by small cruisers and dinghies; modern racers are almost nowhere to be found. Rather than a tough competition, the regatta is more akin to a group outing and is often organised by families.

This year's route from Cologne-Porz downstream to Arnhem in the Netherlands was completed in six stages. From industry in the Ruhr area to beautiful green landscapes, there was plenty to see on both sides of the Rhine - an experience for everyone who took part.
