After two regattas on the Atlantic in Baiona in May and in Cascais in June, the 52 Super Series returned to Puerto Portals on Mallorca for the seventh time in a row. Hasso and Tina Plattner's "Phoenix" and Australian tactician Tom Slingsby secured a promising starting position for the final day yesterday with two excellent results (2.1).
"We're going into the last day with a small lead, but we won't take anything for granted," said Slingsby with regard to the final races. But the team left nothing to chance, and two second places in the last two races even gave them an eleven-point lead over the American team "Sled" in second place.
Team "Provezza" from Turkey made the leap from fifth place to the podium today. Quantum Racing, on the other hand, slipped to fourth place today without its talented owner and helmsman Doug DeVos.
The winners of the two events so far this season came to the Bay of Palma with a 14-point lead in the overall championship standings. However, due to today's slip-ups, they will have to surrender this lead to "Phoenix".
After two extremely successful events in the series (2.2), Harm Müller-Spreer's "Platoon" did not really get going at the Puerto Portals 52 Super Series Sailing Week and finished the regatta in sixth place out of nine.
