Classic: All good things come in threes
She brings a classic to the marriage, and so does he. And then? They buy another one! Hella Peperkorn and Jan Kochen on their passion for old wooden boats

"It's crazy, but there's no other way!" This is how Hella Peperkorn, 56, describes her passion for wooden classics. She shares this passion with her husband Jan Kochen, 58.

The two sought and found each other. Before the couple married, Kochen was already the proud owner of a 30-metre skerry cruiser. The "Bremen", built in 1927 and the oldest member of the fleet, was by no means to be the only ship in the marriage. The 5-mR yacht "Oui Oui!" was Hella Peperkorn's dowry.

But even two wooden classics were not enough for the couple. Together, they purchased the Swedish sea cruiser "Seven" (built in 1958), which has completed the trio ever since.

Kochen and Peperkorn talk about their passion, which is only possible if you love wood, live for sailing and adore winter work, in the new YACHT (issue 22/2019), which is now available in stores and as a digital edition.
