Last week, Dr Hauke Berndt was elected Chairman of the Supervisory Board by a large majority at the Annual General Meeting. Kieler Yacht-Clubs e.V. has been elected. His predecessor Dr Carsten Krage did not stand for re-election after seven years in office.

Berndt, who joined the KYC youth department as a schoolboy Kiel Yacht School joined the club in the past and has been on the advisory board ever since. The 50-year-old manages an international software company and sails a First 40.7 with his family. "The position of Chairman of this unique club fills me with great humility and respect. At the same time, I am very grateful for all the members who work on a voluntary basis and whose commitment makes our club's wide range of activities possible in the first place. I am looking forward to my work on the board and the task ahead of me," said Berndt after the election.

Carsten Krage warmly congratulated his successor. "It has given me great pleasure to lead the Kieler Yacht-Club as Chairman for seven years. They were eventful and challenging years, filled with many great events and wonderful experiences. As a large team, we have achieved a lot for the KYC and the sport of sailing. Honorary positions thrive on change, and it is a good time to pass on responsibility for the fortunes of the KYC. I wish the new chairman every success and good fortune in his new role."

In the run-up to the change in leadership, a change was also prepared in the management of the club, which employs several full-time staff as the organiser of major international regattas. The 35-year-old Martje Uecker will replace the previous Managing Director Jörg Besch from April.

In 2013 she started at the Point of Sailing GmbH in the event and regatta area. From 2019, she concentrated on managing the regatta secretariat. As a squad sailor, particularly in the Europe and Laser Radial boat classes, she first came into contact with the Kieler Yacht-Club, for which she worked as an honorary coach and regatta assistant at the YES and Kieler Woche in the years that followed.

Jörg Besch, who took over the management of the club as a retired naval officer in 2012, will be taking his final professional retirement on 1 April.
