Following the dissolution of the cruiser division, there is now a successor club
Following the decision of the Sailing Day to abolish the Cruiser Division (KA) of the German Sailing Association on 1 January 2024, the Cruiser Division Club has now drawn the consequences. At an extraordinary general meeting the day before yesterday, it was decided to rename the club. The Club der Kreuzer-Abteilung (CKA) will become the Yachtsport Club Deutschland (YCD).

In future, KA offers will be freely available to registered cruising sailors who are members of a DSV club. The Club der Kreuzer-Abteilung (CKA), which was originally founded to give sailors with a membership access to KA, will continue its work under the new club name even after the dissolution of KA, according to a statement from the club.

The majority of members voted online in favour of "Yachtsport Club Deutschland" from four proposed names. In future, the club will be listed as a member club in the DSV under the existing stander, the abbreviation YCD and the same club number (HA 048). Like the CKA, it is open to all water sports enthusiasts who do not belong to a local DSV club. The non-local YCD thus offers its members direct access to the DSV with its free services for members.

"The change of name to Yachtsport Club Deutschland was necessary after the dissolution of the DSV cruiser division in order to avoid confusion between the cruiser division and the club of the cruiser division," says Holger Flindt, 2nd Chairman of the renamed club, explaining the decision.

In addition to the new name, the majority of members also voted in favour of the board's proposal to introduce a special membership at a fee of 22 euros. This would apply to all water sports enthusiasts who are already members of a DSV club but would like to take advantage of further benefits offered by the YCD. This applies in particular to discounts on Pantaenius yacht insurance, which had previously granted KA members discounts on charter insurance and a 50 per cent reduction on the excess in the event of a claim.

About the CKA/ YCD

The Club der Kreuzer-Abteilung (CKA) was founded in 1971 by three-time Admiral's Cup winner Hans-Otto Schümann. His aim was to get more people interested in organised water sports and to give all non-DSV club members access to the DSV cruiser division. The former specialist department of the DSV was regarded as the largest organisation of cruising sailors in Germany.

In addition to promoting cruising and motorised sailing, the KA offered its members a range of special services, attractive offers and special discounts. Anyone wishing to take advantage of the services offered by KA had to be a member of a DSV club at the same time.

With the dissolution of the KA working regulations, the CKA has changed its name to Yachtsport Club Deutschland e. V. (YCD) and continues to be led by 1st Chairman Christian Bahrs, 2nd Chairman Holger Flindt, Treasurer Siegmund Knauer and the Assessors Eberhard Dreyer and Timo Elfes. With around 6,800 members, the YCD claims to be the largest DSV association.
