The sea gives her peace and comfort, inspiration and adrenalin, says Liz Clark
As a young woman, Liz Clark set off to sail around the world. Today she lives in the South Pacific. In this interview, she talks about her journey, her new home and new challenges

After studying environmental science, American Liz Clark wanted to sail around the world - first with friends, later alone. Her journey took her along the American west coast, to the Galapagos and finally to the South Seas. She travelled thousands of miles single-handed in the vastness of the Pacific, always in search of the perfect wave as a surfer. She finally found a new home in French Polynesia.

In her book "The Wave Rider", Liz Clark describes her journey from 2006 to 2018. Today she lives on land on a small, unnamed island and is committed to protecting the fragile environment and nature in the South Seas.

In this interview, she talks about the highs and lows, but also about the personal development that her long journey has brought with it. She talks about what life on land feels like after twelve years on board, what problems exist behind the dreamy beach and lagoon backdrop of French Polynesia - and what she does about them.
