The Parisians have unveiled their logo for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The creation is not only celebrated on social networks

"The medal, the flame, Marianne" - these are the three words used by the French hosts of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games to describe their recently unveiled new emblem. It is a successful and ambiguous, yet minimalist design that has been celebrated on social media since its first presentation. The Organising Committee of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games commented on the logo as follows: "The new design brings together three iconic symbols associated with sport, the Games and France: the gold medal, the Olympic and Paralympic flame and Marianne." The design replaces the logo originally created for the Olympic bid with the Eiffel Tower and was created by the Parisian agency Royalties Ecobrandings. Marianne is the national figure of the French Republic.

Pierre Olivier Beckers-Vieujat, Chairman of the Coordination Commission of the International Olympic Committee, said: "I congratulate Paris 2024 on the presentation of the new emblem. The combination of the gold medal, the Olympic flame and Marianne brings together the values, the history and the French touch that will make these Olympic Games truly special. I believe that this innovative design will quickly be recognised around the world and will be a wonderful calling card for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games."

For the creators, it is clear: the medal shown in the logo symbolises the pursuit of excellence, the flames invite you to dream and represent the energy of the Olympic Games. And then there is the French national figure Marianne, who represents the revolutionary spirit and is intended to portray the sports summit as a celebration for all people. At the same time, the face is intended as a tribute to the female participants in the Olympic Games and to history, as it was in Paris in 1900 that women were allowed to compete in the Olympic Games for the first time. It is also a first that the emblem for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be the same. The only difference under the logo will be either the five Olympic rings or, alternatively, the three-coloured dynamic symbols of the Paralympic movement.

And finally, the new emblem is also intended to embrace Paris as the host city of the Olympic Games with its purist, stylish touch and is inspired by the Art Deco style. This artistic movement reached its peak during the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. The press release for the presentation of the Olympic emblem states: "The logo simply expresses how proud the country is to welcome the world to its capital in 2024." However, the Olympic sailors will not be travelling to Paris in 2024, but to Marseille, where they will be competing for 30 medals in ten disciplines on the water. You can be sure that the sport will be celebrated here, as sailing is a national sport in France.
