Have you always wanted to dine with Boris Herrmann and reminisce about the adventurous Vendée Globe premiere? The NRV auction offers you the chance to do just that
The Norddeutscher Regatta Verein fulfils wishes that can be bought at auction. The auction runs from 17 to 27 June. The proceeds will go to the NRV Olympic Team

Have you always wanted to have dinner with round-the-world sailor Boris Herrmann and chat to the Vendée Globe skipper about his adventures? Would you like a private tactics training session with the equally experienced and humorous Laser world champion Philipp Buhl, who will be chasing medals in the Enoshima Olympic area in a few weeks' time? Or would you like to take part in a dynamic workshop with 470 Olympic helmswoman Luise Wanser, who is sure to have exciting things to report from Japan?

But perhaps a work of art by painter Heinke Böhnert, created on sailcloth from Boris Herrmann's "Seaexplorer", will make you happy. Or the signed original of an Olympic jacket?

Then there are a number of exciting trips, such as the trip on a container to Cape Town. The Verein an der Alster was creative in compiling the experiences, collector's items and more for an auction, one hundred per cent of the proceeds of which will go to the NRV Olympic Team.

The North German Regatta Club in Hamburg and the NRV Olympic Team have put together around 100 unique events, seminars and offers. Many of them are not for sale under normal circumstances. Now these auction items are being auctioned off under the motto "From top-class sport for top-class sport". The proceeds will be used to inspire the active members of the now grown NRV Olympic Team. Of the six female and four male sailors who will be competing for the German Sailing Team at the Olympic regatta off Enoshima at the end of July, four women and three men are members of the NRV Olympic Team. The quota of 70 per cent is high and underlines the intensive work that the club has done since the NRV Olympic Team was founded by Commodore Gunter Persiehl following the 2000 Olympic Games. The success of the NRV Olympic Team is based on a sponsorship model in which the top athletes receive sailing, logistical and financial support depending on their performance.

"I like the support principle and the fact that knowledge is passed on from sailor to sailor in this team," says NRV member and Laser world champion Philipp Buhl, who, as an Allgäu native, once learnt his trade at the Alpsee-Immenstadt Sailing Club and from his father Friedl before becoming a member of the NRV out of conviction a few years ago.

How do you like this article?

One hundred per cent NRV home-grown talent is 470 coxswain Luise Wanser, who, like her foresailor Anastasiya Winkel, is a member of the NRV Olympic Team. The likeable and ambitious duo were able to qualify for the Olympic Games as the sixth and final boat flying the German flag thanks to last-minute support from the club. The 49er sailors and Enoshima hopefuls Erik Heil and Thomas Plößel are also members of the NRV Olympic Team, as is 49erFX foresailor Susann Beucke, who wants to fight for precious metal in Japan with her helmswoman Tina Lutz (Chiemsee Yacht Club).

It is clear that supporting the current 16 members of the NRV Olympic Team and a further eight candidates costs money. In addition to many Olympic sponsors in the club, the management and supporters are providing additional sources of income and added value for Olympic fans with measures such as this "silent auction". NRV Chairman Tobias König is looking for as many auctioneers as possible: "Help us, become a supporter of this success and bid for one or more of our top offers for elite sport. And spread the word. The auction is a uniquely selected portfolio and appeals to everyone who wants to help our top sailors in the German Sailing Team sail at the very front!"

The auction starts on 17 June (12 noon) and ends on 27 June (9 pm). During this time, everyone will have the chance to view and bid on the items on the online platform of auction partner Charitybeat. Sailing is like a constantly refreshing declaration of love for life."
