The Olympic Sailing Committee of the German Sailing Association (DSV) has selected the alternative regattas for the cancelled national Olympic qualification events. Olympic tickets will be contested in four disciplines during Kiel Week.
This includes the two skiff classes, as it is the last elimination regatta for them. However, Erik Heil and Thomas Plößel have already secured 55 points for the men with silver and bronze at the last two World Championships and can no longer be beaten. Justus Schmidt and Max Boehme have sailed to 21 points so far, but there are only 25 to go before Kiel.
The women's competition, on the other hand, could still be exciting. Tina Lutz and Susann Beucke (Wiemers) have a clear lead of 28:16 points in the Olympic elimination after two of three elimination races, ahead of Victoria Jurczok and Annika Lorenz. So mathematically, something is still possible.
Kiel Week also counts towards the Olympic qualifiers in the Nacra 17, where it is the first qualifying regatta, and in the Laser Radial.
Philipp Buhl has already qualified in the Laser Standard.
"We deliberately chose Kiel Week where it was possible and where internationally strong fields can be expected, so as not to postpone the continuation of the qualification unnecessarily," said DSV Sports Director Nadine Stegenwalner.
The results of the qualification events that have already been sailed are to be retained and included in the classification. However, the entire planning and necessary adjustments are still subject to approval by the board of the German Olympic Sports Confederation.
