Bobby Schenk has been an institution in this profession for decades. And rightly so. He understood early on how to explain and teach the correct use of the sextant in such a way that the technique can also be implemented quickly and stress-free at sea.
Instead of overburdening the sailors with unnecessarily complicated calculations or demanding an irrelevant mock accuracy, the doyen of blue water sailing propagates a far simpler, more practicable method - orientated more towards the Anglo-Saxon model than the examination regulations of the German Sailing Association.
And it gets even better: with the help of a computer simulation specially developed by Schenk, it is now possible for the first time to carry out realistic location determinations with the sextant in the YACHT seminar room in Hamburg. A real highlight that makes exercises reproducible and thus guarantees faster learning success. A real highlight that guarantees rapid learning success.
The renowned German manufacturer Cassens & Plath provides several different sextant models for you to try out. If you already have your own sextant, you are welcome to bring it with you.

BOBBY SCHENK
He is one of Germany's best-known sailors and is also one of Delius Klasing Verlag's most successful authors thanks to his numerous specialised books, many of them bestsellers. Since the 1970s, he and his wife Karla have sailed highly acclaimed long-distance voyages, including a circumnavigation and a one-stop voyage from Tahiti around Cape Horn to the Mediterranean, navigating exclusively using his astronavigation method - as many other circumnavigators have done to this day. From the very beginning, he earned special merits in the field of navigation. His astro book, which all seminar participants receive, is considered a standard work even among captains of commercial ships and has been updated and republished several times since 1977.
