In a safety warning on the company website, Torqeedo asks owners of Travel and Ultralight electric motors to check the serial number on the battery. The reason for this is a possible leak in the battery housing of some models. As a result, there is a risk that water could penetrate and trigger a chemical reaction inside the battery. According to the company, this could result in a fire or the housing bursting.
The serial number on the battery can be used to determine whether your own motor is affected. For the Travel model, this is the first four digits of the number from 1001 to 1752 and for the Ultralight model, the sequence of digits from 1117 to 1826. The location of the number on the respective models can be found in the drawing in the manufacturer's communication.
Owners can enter their serial number in the recall form (link below) on the manufacturer's website and find out whether their battery may be faulty. Torqeedo will check the affected batteries and repair them if necessary, according to the announcement.
