Due to the possible carcinogenic effect of an active ingredient in biocides against bacterial growth in fuels, an amendment to the EU Chemicals Regulation prohibits the sale of Grotamar and similar products to private customers from the beginning of December this year. However, the manufacturer Xbee - Enzyme Fuel Technology offers a biocide-free additive that is still freely available for sale. The enzymes it contains are not intended to kill the microorganisms directly, but to dissolve water accumulations at the bottom of the tank and thus deprive them of their basis for life. In addition, the clumping of bacteria and thus the formation of brownish sludge should be prevented. This prevents the clogging of filters and injection nozzles.
In contrast to conventional biocides, which kill the bacteria but do not remove the sediment, Xbee is even supposed to clean the fuel system that is already infested with diesel plague. If this actually works, it would be a huge advantage over additives with biocides.
250 millilitres of Xbee is sufficient for 1000 litres of fuel. It is available in 250 millilitre, one litre and five litre containers. The dosing bottle with 250 millilitres costs 29.90 euros, one litre 79.90 euros and the five-litre canister 255.85 euros.
