Mercury has created a functional engine with a forward-mounted gearstick that is a joy to use on both dinghies and sailing boats. The detailed results of the comparison test in the 5 hp class

The Mercury F5MLH is part of a Comparative tests in the 5 hp outboard class

Almost identical in construction to the Tohatsu MFS5DD, the engine has some pleasant details such as the forward-mounted gearstick, which makes operation as an auxiliary engine on a sailing boat much more convenient. A generator is only available with the Sailpower version. With good performance, the engine is also very economical.

  • + Lightweight and compact
  • + Well illustrated instructions
  • + Front gearstick
  • + Six trim levels
  • - Only one handle, somewhat unwieldy

YACHT rating: **** (Good)
