These days, numerous trailer boat combinations are once again on the roads as owners bring their boats into winter storage. Unfortunately, accidents often occur on the way there.
Like last weekend, for example. A 51-year-old man and his car and trailer skidded on the A1 motorway near Hollenstedt (Lower Saxony). The car and trailer swayed so much that the trailer and boat tipped over and crashed into the ditch next to the carriageway.
Fortunately, nobody was injured in the accident. The A1 motorway had to be partially closed for the subsequent recovery operation. The police have not yet been able to provide any information on the amount of damage, but it is likely to be considerable.
Such and similar boat accidents on the road are not uncommon. This is not surprising, as many drivers simply lack the experience to safely drive a combination of towing vehicle and trailer. They often only make a few trips a year, for example to or from winter storage or as part of a sailing holiday in a remote area.
