Before the "Malizia - Seaexplorer" is officially christened, it will stop off in Cuxhaven the evening before. From there, the IMOCA will sail up the Elbe to Hamburg on the morning of 6 September with a flotilla of escort boats. The spectacle will also be broadcast live on the screens at the Magellan Terraces in Hafencity, where the tent village of the "Malizia Ocean Festival" will be opened beforehand. The arrival will also be broadcast live on television.
The official escort trip starts at around 10.30 a.m. at buoy 133 near Blankenese. The Elbphilharmonie will be passed on the port side and the boat will then turn round at the north port. Of course, the shipping police regulations must be observed, so only registered vessels should take part. The Sandtorhafen itself remains closed to unauthorised escort vessels. Numerous TV crews and photographers, drones and helicopters will document the journey over the last few kilometres of the river.
Boris Herrmann and the "Malizia - Seaexplorer" are expected to arrive in the museum harbour at around 12:30 pm. After the christening and press events, there will be talks on stage about marine and climate protection before live music in the evening. There will also be numerous food trucks throughout the site, as well as exhibitions on sustainable shipping, sustainable materials, coral protection and virtual reality experiences.
On the second day of the festival, Boris Herrmann and Birte Lorenzen-Herrmann will present their children's book "My Ocean Challenge - Kurs auf Klimaschutz". Children who have registered in advance can also visit the "Malizia - Seaexplorer". After an autograph session, the team will say "Thank you, Hamburg", and there will be another party in the evening to round off the event.
With a big two-day event and a new boat, the team wants to share the adventure of its sport with the German public and its partners who have supported it since the start of the Vendée Globe.
