Bold colour, bold bow: the Mojito 32 is a real eye-catcher. We put it to the test.
The new issue of YACHT presents an extensive Germany special with area portraits of the Schaalsee and the Lusatian Lakeland as well as a Baltic Sea mooring report. There are also tests of the Mojito 32 and the ice sailing yacht "Papagena" as well as useful guides on ropes and lifejacket maintenance.

The Schaalsee on the former inner-German border forms the prelude to the area special. The UNESCO biosphere reserve is a natural paradise that is great for exploring while sailing. The waters are an insider tip for a trip into the countryside. It is ideal for dinghies and smaller keelboats.

Baltic Sea harbours in comparison

Our large berth report examines the pricing of harbours on the Baltic Sea coast. The research shows how expensive the individual harbours are and which ones attract the most guest moorings. Prices are rising everywhere, but there are certainly differences between the individual harbours. The analysis provides sailors with an orientation for planning their trips along the German Baltic Sea coast.

The already flooded open-cast mining pits in the Lusatian Lakeland are being connected with each other. This will create one of the largest artificially created inland areas in Germany. We show how sailors can benefit from this development. We describe the current state of development and give an outlook on future opportunities for sailors in this extraordinary area.

Mojito 32 with a bold design

The IDB shipyard is launching a second, larger model on the market after its Mini. The Mojito 32 is characterised by its bold design and exciting details. The poison green colour and the scow bow are the shipyard's trademark. The boat builders are considered innovative and rely on unconventional solutions. The test reveals how good the new model is and what features it has compared to its smaller predecessor. The construction details and sailing characteristics are scrutinised in detail.

Another yacht is no less exciting. The owners had waited ten years before their old ice sailer could be put back on the skids. The "Papagena" weighs one and a half tonnes and yet glides over the ice as light as a feather. The editorial team sailed with her and reported on the speedy slide.

Buying advice for ropes in Skippers magazine

The great material science is dedicated to the topic of cordage. As we all know, you're spoilt for choice. The guide explains which line is the right one for which purpose. Breaking load, elongation and resistance are important criteria when buying halyards, sheets, stretchers and other lines.

Automatic waistcoats are even more important. They need to be serviced so that they work in an emergency. The report shows a day at the lifejacket service centre and explains what is important during maintenance. These lifesavers need regular care to ensure they function properly. The report provides an insight into the work of the service technicians and shows which details need to be taken into account during the inspection.

Other topics in this issue

The Panorama section contains the latest news on the award-winning Woy 26, wind farm expansion, the "Ethel" accident, driving licence reform, police checks and exemptions for small craft. The travel section reports on a Danish island for sale, a tourist tax judgement and its consequences, a sailing ferry on the English Channel and the SeaHelp fleet. The sports section deals with the ORC value for the XR 41, the SailGP season opener, ice sailing and a world record in the Mini 6.50.

The adventure chapter is dedicated to Harry Pidgeon, who sailed around the world twice with his Islander. This tribute is to a little-known ocean pioneer. Another portrait introduces Adel Moser, who spends the winter on his yacht anchored on the Schlei. The editorial team visited him and reports on life on board during the cold season.
