1st International Ocean Film Tour 2018 - through the ice with Yvan Bourgnon

Once again, several short films will be shown as part of the International Ocean Film Tour, all of which revolve around the topic of oceans, marine conservation and water sports. 130 screenings are planned worldwide; the German premiere is on15 March in Hamburg. Once again, the programme is made up of visually stunning documentaries whose protagonists are windsurfers, marine conservationists, divers and, of course, sailors.

"Ocean Rider" - a 25-minute film about the spectacular circumnavigation of the world in an open sports catamaran by Swiss extreme sailor Yvan Bourgnon (see YACHT 14/2015) - will be shown as a pure sailing film in 2018.

Powerful images: First impressions of the International Ocean Film Tour, Volume 5

At the Ocean Film Tour 2017, the sailing film "The Weekend Sailor" caused a sensation among the audience. It was about the surprisingly victorious participation of a Mexican amateur crew in the first Whitbread Round the World Race, today's Volvo Ocean Race (see YACHT 5/2017).

2. the sea before us - the drama surrounding Donald Crowhurst

"The Mercy" runs under the title "Before us the sea" on29 March in German cinemas. Colin Firth plays the British solo skipper Donald Crowhurst, who deceived the public with fake position reports during the 1968 Golden Globe Race and ultimately took his own life at sea.

3rd Last Ship Home - around the world on the "Peter von Danzig"

The circumnavigation of the world by the "Peter von Danzig" in the first Whitbread Race in 1973/74 is the subject of a documentary film by actor and author Michael Weber, whose brother was one of the crew at the time. Exciting insights into the race of an inexperienced crew.

4th Untie the Lines - the adventure of Nike Steiger and "Karl"

At the end of January, Lüneburg sailor Nike Steiger released a documentary about her blue water life with the Reinke "Karl". From the purchase of the boat in Panama to her first solo trip, the viewer accompanies Steiger on her single-handed adventure. The 35-year-old's family and friends comment on the journey.

5 Coyote - the story of US sailor Mike Plant

The film "Coyote" - previously only shown in the USA - tells the life of the American sailing legend Mike Plant, who sailed around the world single-handed three times and took part in the Vendée Globe.
