During the time when the boat is ashore, painting work is usually also carried out. At the very least, the antifouling is given a new coat, but clear varnished wooden parts can also benefit from a refresher. Various tins of paint are opened for this - but rarely used up straight away. In order to be able to use the remaining paint later, the lid must be put back on the can as tightly as possible.
It helps if the rim is nice and clean and not full of paint. To save us cleaning, we avoid the mess when pouring the paint: we tape the tin with some tape to create a V-shaped spout. This also makes it easier to measure out the amount of paint and pour it more precisely into the paint tray without spilling or splashing. The adhesive tape is then simply peeled off and disposed of. The tin can be closed tightly and put back on the shelf clean and ready for when it is needed later.
