When sailing with our nine-year-old daughter on our wooden corsair, it happened that the genoa sheet got caught on the cleats on the mast when tacking. The halyards are attached to this. Replacing these with cleats would be expensive and might not completely solve the problem with the jamming of the foresheet. My daughter then came up with the idea of attaching the protective cover of her slackline around the mast and the cleats. The deflector made of fabric and Velcro normally covers the ratchet of the slackline and reliably kept the sheet away from the cleats.
However, as the cover is actually used elsewhere, my wife sewed a new protective cover herself. Thanks to the elasticated band and press stud, it fits firmly and neatly on the mast at the top and bottom; in between it is closed by a Velcro strip. We have already used the cover in the same place on our 20 dinghy cruiser. To operate the halyards, the top button and the Velcro strip are opened. At the bottom, the cover is held on the mast. It is then closed again.
