To keep the mixture usable for longer, the spout must be sealed tightly
New promising tip against wasting sealant. All you need is a tea light

Sustainability is on everyone's lips; wasting as little as possible and avoiding waste are important prerequisites for achieving this. For us, this also means using as much of the boatbuilding materials as possible. However, this is particularly difficult with cartridges of sealant or adhesive, as the entire quantity is rarely used and a lot is left over. There are plenty of tips to ensure that this can be used for a later application. We have our own method that works very well.

We screw on a new grommet; it is important that it is screwed on tightly. Then fill it two thirds full with the sealing compound - but no more. The remaining space is sealed with candle wax. This must be liquid, a tea light is very suitable. Once the wax has hardened, it reliably seals the cartridge airtight. It is important that no moisture gets into the wax, as this will start the hardening process.

Sealed in this way, the sealant can still be used after six months. Either work with a new spout or soften the wax with a little heat and press it out forwards with the sealant. Preservation in this way works several times with one cartridge.

Redakteur Test & Technik
