We have a one-piece plug-in bulkhead on our boat. When sailing, we regularly asked ourselves where we could best store this bulky item without it flying around, breaking or getting in the way. The aft cabin only offered limited space. The solution was to use two simple brackets, originally intended for fastening cupboard doors or locker lids: the plug-in bulkhead is now clamped behind the wooden grating in the wet room. We fitted the two sash locks at the height of the upper edge of the plug-in bulkhead to hold it in position. This prevents it from slipping even when the boat is heeling heavily and keeps it safely stowed away. It is also immediately to hand when it is needed: The bulkhead can be quickly released from the fixture and the distance from the wet cell to the companionway is short. If there is no grating for clamping to the floor, a small piece of plastic rail with a suitable groove can be glued there instead. The sash locks are available from standard DIY stores or boat chandlers for just under 10 euros.
