If the sailor is alone on board and a fitting needs to be tightened, the question arises: How do you lock the nut with the spanner below deck? A strip of tape can help to hold it in place. Position the spanner so that the other end touches an edge and is thus fixed.

The tape merely holds the tool in position, the force is transmitted by the spanner and in this case is absorbed by the superstructure wall. This allows the screw to be tightened on deck without any problems.
