Deutscher Segler-Verband: Abolition of the cruiser division now finalised
Call for the founding of the German cruising sailors' interest group in YACHT in 1911
At the weekend, the Sailing Council decided to cancel the working regulations of the Cruiser Division of the German Sailing Association. This means that the organisation representing the interests of cruising sailors, which was founded in 1911 and joined the DSV in 1917, is to be formally dissolved

The vote was preceded by a fundamental discussion initiated by DSV President Mona Küppers. It concerned the reorganisation of the Cruising and Leisure Sailing division with its committees "Ice, Land and Beach Sailing", "RC Sailing", "Leisure Sailing" and " DSV Cruiser Department ".

The DSV Executive Committee member elected by the Sailors' Congress for this area of business is also the Chairman of the Cruiser Division (KA), which due to their history of origin consists of individual members who elect an honorary board at their general meeting and also has its own symbolism.

This structure is now to be abolished. However, Mona Küppers let the approximately 14,800 members know in an email that was sent out immediately after the vote in the Sailing Council.

"Dear members of the DSV cruiser department,

We would like to inform you personally about a current development before it is published on our website.

From 1 January 2024, we will open up our cruiser department service, which was previously subject to a fee, to all cruising sailors in the DSV, modernise it and offer it free of charge.

Nothing will change for you: all benefits will remain the same, only the additional contribution from the cruiser department will be cancelled."

It remains to be seen what will happen next. Concrete plans for safeguarding the interests of the cruising sailors active in the DSV clubs have not yet been announced. What will happen to the elected representatives of the cruiser division The members have not yet been informed of what will happen. Finally, it is questionable whether it is even legally possible to dissolve KA as a corporate body without the vote of its members.

However, it is doubtful whether there will ever be an answer to this question. The membership has not yet endeavoured to clarify this issue, and the previous KA Chairman has resigned due to the disputes surrounding the KA announced his resignation.
