Sun Charter opens a base with its own beach, bar-bistro and swimming area for its customers on a small island near Portisco

The southern German charter company is starting this season with a base on the island of Marina dell Isola, a tiny peninsula in the bay of Marinella, a few kilometres south-east of Portisco. The island and its jetty are privately owned and reserved for visitors to a few holiday homes and Sun Charter customers; there are no other charter fleets there. Customers can use the beach next door or enjoy a sundowner at the bar. "It is a small, exclusive resort and we are delighted to be able to welcome our customers there from this season," says Sun Charter Managing Director Marc Rosendahl. The company had a base in Marina Portisco in previous years, but was able to secure the exclusive deal for the small harbour on the private island for this season. During the week, the facility is also open to crews from other yachts, and the jetties have a water depth of three to four metres, which is also sufficient for larger yachts.

There are around 20 boats available, mainly Jeanneaus and Dufours from 33 to 57 feet, as well as a cat (Lucia 40) from Fountaine Pajot. The new base is an ideal starting harbour for cruises through the island world on the north-eastern side of Sardinia with the Maddalena archipelago and the French Lavezzi Islands. It is also only a day's sail to nearby Corsica with dream harbours such as Bonifacio. The area is popular for its beautiful bays, great beaches and, thanks to nature reserves, plenty of unspoilt flora and fauna.

The journey is via Olbia airport, which is served directly by many German airports and also by low-cost airlines. The transfer only takes about 20 minutes. Information and bookings either via the Sun Charter website by telephone on 08171/29905 or by e-mail at sail@suncharter.de.
