PT Marina Development Indonesia (MDI) and PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) are behind this major project. Construction of the mega marina is already in full swing and the first yachts will be able to moor at the end of 2025. By the third quarter of 2026, the new facility will offer a total of 180 berths, 50 of which will be for superyachts up to 90 metres. There is a similar project on the Maldives.
MDI Supervisory Board member Liza Singer, who previously helped build a marina in Cyprus and is now concentrating on Bali, emphasises an important aspect: "The marina is only 15 minutes away from the airport." In any case, it should not remain a stand-alone project, but pave the way for further marinas in Indonesia and promote yacht tourism in the country.
The name Bali Gapura Marina was chosen deliberately. "Gapura" means "gate" in Balinese and stands for the entrance to the harbour, but also for the connection between cultures, for the transition from water to land. "Gapura also means that travellers are welcome," says Liza Singer.
"The name underlines Indonesia's commitment to placing maritime travel at the centre of new projects and combining cultural heritage with future-oriented destinations," explained Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia.
For Liza Singer and Joseph Prabantara, MDI co-founder and head of development, the appearance is also important, that the architecture of the buildings - such as the planned yacht club - is taken over by local professionals and that in the end everything "fits in with the surroundings".
The progress of the marina can be seen around Dock B. Eleven concrete pontoons with 48 berths have already been positioned here. At the same time, the pontoons for Docks A and C are still in production. The elements, designed and prefabricated in Sweden by SF Marina, are being assembled on site. Dock D will then be built as a floating breakwater.
The pilot opening of Dock B is planned for the first week of December 2025. From then on, boats will be able to dock and use facilities such as water, electricity and utility services. There will also be a welcome station to enable guests and owners to complete QICP formalities (quarantine, immigration, customs and harbour) smoothly.
Ulf Backlund, Managing Director of Marina Development Indonesia: "The pilot opening paves the way for the next phases: full service facilities by mid-2026, expansion to 180 berths by the third quarter of 2026 and the development of a waterfront and lifestyle centre by 2028."
Services at Bali Gapura Marina will also include private rooms for crews and captains. There are also plans to provide high-quality food supplies and offices for traders and brokers.
