"Ianos" sinks yachts in harbours
Last night and today, the Medicane storm hit the southern islands of the Ionian Sea. Yachts sank in Efimia and Zakynthos

Last night, the first waves swept across the islands of Kefalonia, Zakynthos and Ithaca in particular, causing extensive damage in some harbours and bays. A Facebook video from Efimia shows several sunken yachts on the pier, washed up on the shore by the waves or smashed against the quay wall. There are similar images from Zakynthos.

Watch the video of the yachts confessed in Efimia here.

There and on Kefalonia, roofs were covered by the storm, fallen trees caused large-scale power cuts in some areas and the rain caused flooding. The storm will continue to move southwards towards the Peloponnese and the mainland over the course of today. Lefkas and the more northerly islands appear to have been spared. More detailed information will probably only be available during the course of the day as the clean-up operation continues.
