The Ionian Sea is always a good destination for a beautiful late summer cruise - warm water, the area, which is bursting at the seams during the season, is a little emptier again and the local people are more relaxed. If you want to top the experience, don't sail immediately south towards the popular destinations of Paxos and Antipaxos and on to Lefkas like most crews that start from Corfu, but turn your bow to the north: There lie the diapontic islands of Erikoussa, Othoni and Mathraki, which many sailors who are often travelling in the Ionian Sea never get to see. Yet they are a worthwhile, original destination, and once there, the complete circumnavigation of the island down the west coast is also an option. There are also plenty of worthwhile spots on Corfu itself.
This means you sail counter-cyclically to most other charter crews, but still get to see Paxos' top bay Lakka and the famous, canal-like harbour of Gaios. We present the area in a detailed travel story.
