According to the Sassnitz Water Police Inspectorate, there have already been a number of violations of the navigation ban on the Nordperd roadstead by sailors, as a result of which several sailing boats have been expelled from the area around the anchored "Seapeak Hispania". The skippers now face a hefty fine of between 150 and 450 euros.
Chief Superintendent Naumann, Sassnitz Water Police Station: "The three cases of recreational skippers getting too close to an LNG tanker occurred shortly after Notice to Mariners 136/23 from 8 May 2023 have been reported and do not show any permanent accumulation. However, ships coming from the east or south in particular can easily find themselves in this prohibited zone. To make skippers aware of this issue once again, we have issued a new press release pointing out this costly offence."
The prohibition of navigation is also regularly announced via the VHF radiotelephone of the responsible traffic centres. The waterway police point out that boats equipped with a radiotelephone must also switch it on and listen to it.
As the orders were only published on 8 May this year, the new LNG anchorages are not yet included in the official nautical charts. We have had the anchorages drawn on the Delius Klasing nautical charts for our readers in order to make it easier to plan trips in this popular area. With the next update, the new features will also be available in the digital charts.
If an LNG tanker is anchored in the Nordperd roadstead, which extends within the connecting lines between the coordinates below, all other vessel drivers are prohibited from staying in this roadstead with their vessels. Vessels must keep a safe distance of at least 1 nautical mile from tankers anchored in the Nordperd roadstead. If this distance is not maintained, a heavy fine may be imposed.
If an LNG tanker is anchored in the Lubmin roadstead, which extends within a radius of 350 metres around the position 54° 10.50' N 013° 35.70' E, all other skippers are prohibited from being on the Lubmin roadstead with their boats. A safety distance of at least 0.5 nautical miles must be maintained here.
The shuttle traffic of the LNG tankers requires increased attention from sailors and motorboat drivers around Lubmin Marina. This is because, in accordance with § 25 SeeSchStrO, commercial vessels travelling in the fairway directly past the marina have right of way over pleasure craft that have to cross this fairway to enter and leave.
The only exceptions to the ban on navigating the two LNG anchorages are public service vehicles, rescue vessels and ships serving incoming tankers.
