The cruising competition organised by the DSV cruising department is one of the most traditional competitions in the German cruising scene. Under the motto "Tell us about it", numerous travelogues have once again been submitted for this year's competition, which will be honoured in various categories. This year, all interested parties can register for the cruising evening via the Reporting portal on the DSV website - even if you don't belong to a club.
The date for the cruising evening was deliberately chosen to coincide with the start of the Hamburg Yacht Festival, which is taking place in Wedel for the first time from 8 to 10 September, in order to attract as many interested parties as possible. Clemens Fackeldey, DSV Vice President with the Cruising and Leisure Sailing Division, commented:
I'm looking forward to the combination of the technical offerings during the day at the trade fair and the cross-generational exchange about the fascinating cruises at the social cruising evening."
In addition to the cruising evening in Wedel Schulau, the DSV is also offering "Sailing Days" and the "Safety Day" directly at the Hamburg Yacht Festival from 8 to 10 September in the Wedel marina.
Taster sailingThe action days for beginners interested in sailing offer taster sailing for all age groups on dinghies. Previous experience is just as unnecessary as special sailing clothing. A safety boat accompanies the teams sailing on the Elbe.
Sailing lab for kidsDSV Seglerjugend will be on land with its experimental laboratory. All children are invited to carry out their own experiments on aero- and hydrodynamic aspects of water, wind and sailing.
Lectures and interviewsHow does sailing actually work and why does the boat move forwards? Can families also sail with (small) children? What needs to be considered? How do sailors dispose of their rubbish when sailing, and what exactly does environmental protection mean when sailing? These and other questions will be addressed in talks and interviews on all three days.
Extinguishing fires, fighting leaks, selecting and maintaining life jackets - the Safety Day organised by the Cruiser Club (CKA) at the Hamburg Yacht Festival also offers news and information on all aspects of sailing safety.
In cooperation with numerous companies, the CKA provides information in workshops and lectures on the correct behaviour in emergency situations on the water and safety measures on board. With its varied programme, the service club for water sports enthusiasts is aimed at all those interested in water sports and boat owners who, in addition to first aid training, can also train in leakage and fire prevention. The concept was developed in close co-operation with the DSV cruiser department and the Pantaenius yacht insurance claims department.
