Cruise planning: Passage in the Greifswald barrier restricted all year round
The Notices to Mariners 16/22 informs that the passage of the storm surge barrier in Greifswald at the mouth of the Ryck is not possible from about 11:15 to about 12:45 and that the closure will be indicated by traffic lights.
The closures take place on several days in each month of the year on the following days:
11, 15, 16 and 17 February
15, 16 and 17 March
26, 27 and 28 April
17, 18 and 19 May
21, 22 and 23 June
13, 19 and 21 July
16 and 17 August
21, 22 and 27 September
18 and 19 October
15, 16 and 22 November
13 and 14 December
The closures have been chosen carefully. Another obstacle on the Ryck, the historic drawbridge, does not open at midday anyway, but at 11.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. In addition, the manually operated bridge will be open at other full hours from 9.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. during the season from 25 April to 11 September, with shorter operating hours before and after that.
The barrage and bridge are highly relevant for sailing and the water sports industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Ryck between Greifswald and Greifswald Wieck is home to numerous sailing clubs and jetties as well as various charter yachts and, last but not least, the Hansegroup, which releases the new yachts delivered on the lake side via the river.
