The pilot island at the mouth of the Schlei and its harbour were badly affected by the Baltic Sea storm surge. The damaged jetty is closed for the time being and the land-based facilities also need to be rebuilt. It is estimated that around 130,000 euros and many hours of voluntary help will be needed to do this.
TheFriends of the Schleimünde near-natural water hiking area e. V.calls with his actionSaving Schleimünde together for help. "Anyone can help," says the announcement, "with their own labour, with construction equipment, with materials or financially".
The QR code in the flyer leads to this Website. There, possibilities and willingness to support the reconstruction are enquired about.
It's not just about money, but also about labour and services as well as donations in kind. Basically, anyone who cares about Schleimünde can get involved, as there is not much left of what it used to be.
While the Lighthouse Foundation, as the owner of the pilot island, is primarily responsible for coastal and facility protection, the reconstruction of the harbour and the repair of the destroyed jetties are the task of the Friends of the Schleimünde near-natural water hiking site e. V.
