In the period from 1 July to 31 December 2019, artillery and torpedo firing exercises will be carried out in the Bay of Kiel and in the waters around Rügen and Usedom. This affects the Bay of Kiel as well as the Pomeranian Bay and Arkona. The shipping lanes that pass through the firing area (Kiel-Flensburg route and Kiel-Baltic Sea route) are not affected and can still be used.
The Lübeck and Stralsund Waterways and Shipping Offices (WSA) have announced that the exercises will take place both during the day and at night. The exercise area has not been explicitly cordoned off; in addition to the signalling devices prescribed by the KVR and SeeSchStr, the vessels are marked by the flag signal "NE 4".
