That was quicker than expected: The Schleibrücke bridge in Kappeln has been repaired and has been back in regular operation since this morning. This was announced by the Schleswig-Holstein Road Construction and Transport Authority (LBV.SH), which added: "All shipping traffic has been able to pass as normal again since 9.45 a.m."
A pivot bearing on the bridge had to be replaced. It has only been in limited use in recent weeks and has not been in operation at all since 8 April. The closure, combined with the limited opening hours of the railway bridge in Lindaunis, had recently caused hundreds of yachtsmen, as well as harbour and shipyard operators, some headaches. "A number of yachts that made it out of Schleswig and then couldn't get any further have been stuck here for weeks. We are pleased that they can now sail on to their summer berths," says Jörg Bahnsen, harbour master at Arnisser Segelclub in Kappeln.
Now the season can begin. YACHT wishes all sailors on the Baltic Sea fjord a safe journey!
