While bridges do not play a major role in the Schleswig-Holstein part of the Baltic Sea - apart from the Schlei - there are quite a few in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. And they are of considerable importance, such as the Ziegelgrabenbrücke bridge near Stralsund, which must be passed when sailing around Rügen. As this and other bridges in the state do not open every hour, as many sailors from Schleswig-Holstein or Denmark are used to, the Waterways and Shipping Authority publishes the opening times at the start of the season.

The bridge only opens when necessary and up to wind force 7. Watercraft must indicate their intention to pass approx. 10 minutes before the bridge opens by remaining close to the guide structure.
The right of way is regulated by a traffic light system as follows:
