Full commitment: The J/70 is sailed very actively
The successful club format from Germany is entering its tenth season, has long been successful internationally and is set to grow further

Every year since 2013, 18 clubs have sailed in the Bundeliga to decide their champion. The team of Hamburg initiator Oliver Schwall from the marketing agency Konzeptwerft manages the game, which brings sailors from different classes together on the boats and promotes activities within the clubs. Based on the football model, there is not only a championship trophy, but also a second national league that can be relegated and promoted. On top of this, a Europe-wide Champions League is organised, which two German clubs, the German Touring Yacht Club and the Überlingen Sailing and Motorboat Club, have already won.

The German Sailing League Cup, where newcomers meet established teams, provides for new teams. With five successes, the North German Regatta Club is the record winner of the national league, whose successful model has been adopted by more than 20 countries. In addition to good sport, the programme is attractive due to its manageable costs. The boats (in Germany they sail on J/70) are provided, the fees are reasonable at 9,000 euros per year, but there are also costs for logistics, training and other items. The Bundesliga is not only developing splendidly, but also in many different ways. Initiator Schwall talks about goals such as climate neutrality, quotas for women and inclusion.

You can read about what makes the Bundesliga special, what's new for the 2023 season and which clubs performed how in the new YACHT, which will be available at newsagents from 18 May, but which you can also download from Order directly from the publisher or as Conveniently download the digital magazine can.
