Irresistible at the start: the local heroes from new league leaders OneKiel
The people of Kiel took the plunge: three clubs jointly organised the eagerly awaited start of the eighth Bundesliga season - the league sailors were in luck

With ten out of a possible 16 race wins and a whopping eleven points ahead of second-placed Segel- und Motorboot Club Überlingen, the OneKiel club took the lead in the standings at the delayed Bundesliga opener. The team led by helmsman Magnus Simon impressed in the first showdown of the season in their home waters. Wassersport-Verein Hemelingen took third place in the 1st Bundesliga ahead of the fourth-placed four-time record winners from Norddeutscher Regatta Verein in Hamburg. The Berlin title defenders from the Seglerhaus am Wannsee club had to be satisfied with ninth place at the Baltic Sea opening. The red lantern at the back of the pack hangs in the stern of the Berlin Yacht Club for the time being.

OneKiel tactician Max Schuberth said in an interview during the live broadcast from Kiel: "We live for the fact that we can compete with others and we missed that in the spring. We are happy that we can sail here off Schilksee. This is our home waters and we also train here. We are delighted that it has now worked out and that so much work has been invested that we can now sail here off Schilksee." Schuberth also had an explanation for the goodness of his team, which won the second league season in 2019 and was promoted: "Our club provides us with two boats here. We've been on the water regularly with two teams since the end of April, train twice a week, sail at weekends and have also met up with other clubs in training groups. We work a lot in the background with Jochen Schümann, who supports and advises us with regard to the German Sailing League. We are a young, fun team with a lot of ambition."

In the 2nd Bundesliga, a southern club, Bodensee-Yacht-Club Überlingen, beat two teams from the north in the same area: Hamburger Segel-Club, with the best helmswoman Silke Basedow, sailed to second place in the table ahead of their Elbe neighbours from Mühlenberger Segel-Club with helmsman Till Krüger, who had just won the first German club championship in eSailing with his team and was now successful again in what is still his favourite element. The Kieler Yacht-Club missed out on the second division podium in fourth place by four points. The 18th and final place in the table was initially occupied by the Altona-Oevelgönne Sailing Association after this delayed season opening due to the coronavirus pandemic in the national sailing team's training area in front of the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Centre. The double comeback league sailing festival was organised by three clubs: Segelclub Baltic, Segler-Vereinigung Kiel and TSV Schilksee.

The eighth season of the still young Bundesliga, which was shortened due to the coronavirus pandemic, is to be continued in this way - if everything works out and the authorities give the green light:

28 to 30 August: Wannsee/Berlin (1st and 2nd Bundesliga)

11 to 13 September: Wannsee/Berlin (1st Bundesliga)

No date yet: Southern district (several options are being examined; 1st and 2nd Bundesliga)

8 to 10 October: Außenalster/Hamburg (final; 1st and 2nd Bundesliga)

17 to 18 October: Außenalster/Hamburg (DSL Cup)

Here it goes to the tables of the first and second division teams as well as information about the Bundesliga.

Sailing is like a constantly refreshing declaration of love for life."
