In action on Lake Constance: the record champions from the NRV
Jubilation among the record champions from the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein: The Hamburg team has won a premier league season for the sixth time since 2013 and once again lifted the championship trophy. The NRV is the 2022 German Sailing Club Champion!

The Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV) has confidently won the German Sailing Club Championship. The Hamburg-based team won for the sixth time in the tenth anniversary season of the Bundesliga after 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2020. On Lake Constance, fifth place was enough for the club from the Alster to triumph on the fifth and final weekend of the league. Tobi Schadewaldt, the most successful helmsman for the NRV this season, said: "We are over the moon that we now have the sixth star on our chest and have become champions again." The runner-up was the Segel- und Motorboot Club Überlingen (SMCÜ) ahead of the Seglerhaus am Wannsee club.

The triumph as an incentive: "We want the triple!"

The victorious sailors from Hamburg's Outer Alster also see their renewed triumph as an incentive. Schadewaldt said: "The season is not over for us yet. After the victories in the Sailing Champions League and the 1st Bundesliga, we want to win the triple and also the League Cup. We're fired up for that!" The final league highlight is still to come: the DSL Cup will be held on Hamburg's Outer Alster on 5 and 6 November. The hosts will be the newly crowned record champions from the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein. Click here for the first division season table.

The October final was a battle of nerves in little to no wind. Not so much for the league leaders from NRV, who could hardly be jeopardised on their way to the title after a strong season performance, but more for the clubs in danger of relegation. The clubs in 15th to 18th place in the first division will have to relegate from the first to the second division: Bayerischer Yacht-Club (BYC), Blankeneser Segel-Club (BSC), Joersfelder Segel-Club (JSC) and Seglervereinigung Itzehoe (SVI).

"The appeal of league sailing is undiminished"

The southern sailors from the Konstanzer Yacht-Club (KYC), who organised the last league summit together with the Württembergischer Yacht-Club (WYC), had reason to celebrate at the second league final held in parallel off Friedrichshafen. As the winners of the second league season, the team from Constance will sail in the first division next year. The other teams promoted to the top flight are Akademischer SegelVerein Warnemünde (ASVW), Regatta-Segler Neuruppin (RSN) and Chiemsee Yacht Club (CYC). "The appeal of league sailing remains unbroken in the tenth year of the league. This year, the competition between North and South - NRV versus SMCÜ - was particularly dynamic. But the local rivals from the individual federal states and city states also always provide a special thrill on the water," said league organiser Oliver Schwall. Some sailors reported that the winner's party at Zeppelin University "escalated" the morning after. The league family let it rip. Including disco fog, which called the local fire brigade to the scene ...

With thanks to the many helpers in the clubs

Schwall continued: "We are very grateful for this exciting season, in which the level of the top clubs in the 1st Sailing Bundesliga was particularly impressive. The excellently organised six events would not have been possible without the great commitment of the organising clubs and the many volunteers."

The Entdecker und Seefahrer Fördervereinigung from Hamburg (EnSFr), the Segel-Club Salzgitter (SCSZ), the Akademischer Segler-Verein Hamburg (ASV Hamburg) and the sailing department of FC St. Pauli (FCSP) will have to bid farewell to the 2nd German Sailing League after this season. The latter started the season with an inclusive team.

The German Sailing League, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, has been an integral part of the regatta calendar of many clubs since its first season and has proven itself as a club stage on which former Olympians, world and European champions compete with their teams for their home clubs.
