At first glance, the winches are very reminiscent of the new models Orbit winches from Ronstan. However, the ribs are unevenly distributed in the Swedes, which is intended to allow the line to be fished more evenly under load. The design of the spring-loaded selftailer is intended to generate little friction so that the rope does not have to be removed from the selftailer by hand for quick hauling. However, it is not possible to haul with the line lying in the selftailer.
If you have winches from another manufacturer on deck and want to switch to Seldén winches, you will be delighted with the adapter plates from the Swedes. They are placed under the winch and adapt the hole pattern so that no new holes need to be drilled. Sizes from 30 to 66 are available. The price for a 40 winch is 1,066 euros.
The electric versions called E-Series offer three gears in motorised mode. In addition to the conventional two gear ratios, a particularly fast mode can be activated for overtaking by simply pressing both buttons simultaneously. The electric drive is controlled by Seldén's SEL bus system and operates at 48 volts. The E-series includes models from 40 to 66 metres in size. Prices start at 3,434 euros without the control unit. As the basic winches of the S and E series are identical, the electric drive can also be retrofitted. It is located below deck, but requires little space due to the compact, brushless motor. According to Seldén, the winches are produced in Sweden.
Another new feature is Seldén's Race Grip crank. To unlock it, all you have to do is hold it by the arm. This activates two long plastic levers on the side of the crank and turns the locking plate. Although this idea is not really new, the position of the levers guarantees easy operation, as the fingers automatically push them inwards when gripping the crank. The crank is made of aluminium and the handle is mounted on ball bearings. It will be available from February in eight and ten inch lengths and will cost around 155 euros.
