Webinar content:

Whether you’re a charterer or an owner: if you don’t want to limit yourself to sailing only in the Baltic Sea or the Mediterranean, you should familiarise yourself with the basics of the tides. That said, there’s no need to calculate everything down to the last centimetre. If you keep track of the big picture and understand the relationships involved, you can sail comfortably, quickly and safely using a simple rough estimate – without getting bogged down in figures and calculations.

A tidal table developed by our speaker and author, Leon Schulz, is available to assist with this; it allows calculations to be carried out step by step, not only for reference locations but also for connecting locations, simply by entering the relevant data. Accurate tidal calculations are crucial, particularly during anchoring manoeuvres, to ensure the anchor holds securely overnight and you aren’t woken up by the boat running aground!

The webinar is suitable for both beginners and experienced tidal sailors. With a few tips and tricks, you can navigate tidal waters with confidence, in a relaxed and straightforward manner. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’ll gain a few extra knots of speed, experience calmer waves, be able to anchor safely, pass under low bridges and navigate shoals with ease – and discover a whole new sailing adventure: Playing the Tides!
