Together with our partners 1st class yacht charter and Pantaenius yacht insurance we are organising a special training course just for women in Heiligenhafen in September. As with all our training courses, the focus will be on practical experience on board.
The weekend is all about manoeuvres that can sometimes pose problems even for experienced sailors: Mooring and casting off in the harbour, reefing, trimming and other basics of good seamanship.
We sail on Beneteau, Hanse or Bavaria cruising yachts with conventional equipment and typical manoeuvring characteristics. Training is provided by qualified trainers from the Heiligenhafen charter centre.
The aim is to give participants more sovereignty, self-confidence and composure in a relaxed atmosphere characterised by team spirit. The course is aimed at female charter sailors as well as women who are travelling with their partner on their own keel and would like to take an active part in steering the boat.
These are the questions that the training is all about:
How do you prepare yourself and the crew for a harbour manoeuvre? Which lines and equipment are appropriate and useful? What options do you have when docking and casting off under engine? What are the options if plan A doesn't work? How do you make mooring more comfortable and safer with the help of the right line management? How do you get safely to the pier aft?

Mooring, avoiding damage, working with fenders and important knots
All manoeuvres under power
Rade effect, current, levers & combination, spring lines
Mooring - at the jetty with piles
Mooring - alongside the pier
Turning - in the pit lane and on the pier
Tacking - at the pier and on piles
Casting off - from the jetty with poles
Casting off - from the pier alongside
Good seamanship
