The 36.1 is the successor to the successful 34, which won the European Yacht of the Year award two years ago. For the first time, there are two interior variants - Elegance looks more dignified, Avantgarde cool.
The boat, which is optimised purely for cruising, comes from the computer of designer Georg Nissen. Anyone who knows him and the Schoechls knows that, despite their focus on comfort, performance under sail is also important to them.
This was one of the reasons why the shipyard switched from solid laminate to sandwich hull construction a year ago. This results in an appropriate weight of 6.25 tonnes for the Sunbeam 36.1. With a total sail area of 60 square metres, it has a sail carrying capacity of 4.2 - not a lot, but it should be enough. For light winds, the sailmaker has a rollable Code Zero.
The model, which Schoechl is presenting for the first time at the new stand in Hall A1, has harmonious, moderately modern lines. Short chine edges at the stern are reminiscent of the Sunbeam 30.1, which will be exhibited in the exhibition harbour (there in the original, scale 1:1). New features include the long window strip in the superstructure and the colour-contrasting transom. Also new are the silver-coloured "gills" at the end of the side windows, which have become a distinctive feature of all Sunbeams.
Below deck, the novelty can only be grasped from the first sketches. The cabin layout with a large wet room to starboard of the companionway, galley to port and two spacious double cabins fore and aft harbours few surprises. But the visual design does.
A saloon table made of moulded wood, the body of which protrudes from the saloon floor in a soft wave shape and is also rounded at its upper ends, is one of the defining elements. But even more so, the two equipment lines Elegance and Avantgarde mark the shipyard's shift towards modernity.
The Avantgarde version in particular, with its dark wood and, if desired, strongly contrasting lacquered surfaces, conveys a completely new feeling that one would expect from Italian luxury-class shipyards.
With a base price of 183,260 euros, the Sunbeam 36.1 also stands out clearly from standard boats in other respects. It will celebrate its German premiere in its original form at the Hanseboot in Hamburg.
