LED position lights are already available from various manufacturers. Until recently, however, their use on yachts flying the German flag was prohibited as they were not authorised for recreational shipping by the BSH (Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency).
In addition to the Bremen-based company aqua signal (see news from 27 September 2006), the newly founded company BlueWaterLights GmbH from Crossen in Thuringia also offers a range of LED navigation lights with official blessing for navigation on the Rhine and at sea. It includes single-colour and dual-colour sidelights as well as stern, top and anchor lights. The very solid-looking lights cost from 189 euros.
