The rescueME Epirb 1 Pro from Ocean Signal is an emergency transmitter that calls for help via satellite. According to the manufacturer, the new model is the smallest Epirb on the market. It determines the position via 66-channel GPS and alerts the rescue services from anywhere in the world via satellite at 406 megahertz. In addition, a direction finding signal commonly used in aviation is transmitted at 121.5 kilohertz for close-range detection. An LED strobe light also visually alerts sailors in distress.
The Epirb is supplied with a housing that is automatically triggered by water pressure and releases the Epirb so that it floats on the water surface, even if the boat sinks. The transmitter with housing measures 237 × 191 × 121 millimetres and without housing 178 × 89 millimetres. The battery has a service life of ten years. The floatfree housing is said to be compatible with old devices, so new drill holes are not necessary. Price: 859 euros.
