Which furling and reefing systems are the best, and how do you repair modern high-tech cloths yourself? How do you find your dream boat? Are boat licences from the Internet legal? And what has actually happened to the plans for the controversial Baltic Sea National Park? You can find out all this and much more in the new YACHT!

A year ago, the plans of Schleswig-Holstein's Environment Minister Tobias Goldschmidt to protect large areas of the German Baltic Sea as a national park were thwarted by political realities. He then announced that he wanted to establish nature reserves instead. Water sports enthusiasts listened up. Will the feared restrictions now come about as a result of this Baltic Sea protection action plan? We have enquired and provide answers in the Baltic Sea Special.

Our guest author Lars Reisberg writes in his reflection on the subject of buying a boat that an extensive tour on this inland sea can have the effect of sailing around the world for the crew. Because they have the feeling of being far away and embarking on a great adventure. It should be added that such a journey leads to a wide variety of landscapes.

Exciting cruises in fascinating areas

Perhaps the most striking of these are the Scandinavian archipelago coasts. Last summer, several colleagues were drawn there. Nico Krauss reports on his trip to the Åland Islands, and Mike Peuker gives tips on mooring on the rocks.

The new YACHT 22/2024 is now available at newsagents and newsagents, as well as in the Delius Klasing App ready for download. Or you can simply order them directly here...

I realised once again how grateful we should be that we can spend our free time on the water summer after summer when I read a very special story: a newly founded association offers young adults with serious illnesses a sailing programme to strengthen their resilience. Hans Borchert's very personal report describes the strength the participants recharge on board.

Marvels of technology

All these topics are united in the truest sense of the word by the sail as a drive. Our technology team devotes a full 18 pages to it in a special feature in this issue. Nautor's new 88-footer is also powered by the wind. But not only by it. From the outside, you can't tell that the boat is full of innovative technology. In collaboration with electric motor manufacturer Torqeedo, a power plant has been created that does far more than just provide propulsion. We reveal what in our yacht portrait.

As in other competitive sports, regatta sailing depends on consistent support. A report on the Kiel-Schilksee sailing boarding school shows that this includes dovetailing training with school lessons and how this works.

Enjoy this issue!
